1971 PORSCHE 911E TARGA

Porsche pushed the 911 into the '70s with a slightly larger 2.2-liter version of its flat six.  The extra displacement boosted output of the Zenith-carbureted 911T to 125 horsepower, the injected 911E to 155 horsepower and the injected, high-compression 911S to 180 horsepower.  Not only was the new engine larger, but it also used new aluminum cylinder heads with larger valves for better respiration.  With a myriad of other detail changes like new undercoating and a buzzer that went off if the driver left the ignition key in, the 1970 911s were easily the best ever. So good that they continued through 1971 basically unchanged.

This rare original 1971 911E Targa has spent all of it's years in the dry climate of California through the mid-1990's, after which it resided in the dry climate of Arizona.  It resided with it's previous owner for the last 17 years and was regularly for all but the last 4 years, during which time has been in storage.  It's original matching numbers engine and transmission are still present and it is free of the usual rust seen on most early 911's.  It is especially clean for a Targa.  This car starts and drives very nicely and being an "E" is very fast with its 155bhp engine, 30bhp more than the 911T and faster than the 911S from 0 to 100mph Factory options stated on the Certificate of Authenticity include Front and Rear Stabilizer Bars, 3 Point Seatbelts, Tinted Glass All Around and Dunlop Tires.  Below are the details on it's current condition, including more than 150 high resolution photos and 3 videos.  Please call us at 415-205-0716 or email, if you should have any questions.  Good luck bidding on this very nice 911E!

BODY, TRIM and PAINT

The body shows no rust in any of the usual areas (trunk, floors, rockers, wheel wells, doors, etc.) and is very straight.  There is one minor ding on the passenger door, but otherwise the body appears free of other dings or dents.  Doors shut and latch well with that original Porsche "ping".  All the chrome and aluminum body trim parts remain in good original condition.  All glass is clear with no wiper scrapes, cracks or clouding.  Front and rear turn signal lenses are in good condition with no cracks.  The rubber weatherstripping in good condition.  The front, rear, side weatherstripping was replaced in 1994, with receipts.

The paint is in good condition overall.  The paint is an older high quality repaint and shines up very well.  The color was changed from the original Sepia Brown to a more attractive Cocoa Brown with a light metallic.  There are a few minor paint chips and a couple of minor cracks, but there are no rust bubbles or faded areas in the paint.   From 10 feet away the paint still looks very good.
